4. Accuracy of information

We make a reasonable effort to keep information on this site current, including facts about Thailand's cannabis regulations. However, cannabis law in Thailand continues to evolve, and we cannot guarantee that every page reflects the most recent regulatory change at the moment you read it. How the PT 33 Prescription Process Works in Thailand | HOLYWEED Bangkok

Getting Started

How the PT 33 Prescription Process Works in Thailand

HOLYWEED Clinic Team · 8 min read

If you're considering medical cannabis in Thailand, the process starts and ends with one document: the PT 33 prescription form. Since Thailand moved to a medical-only cannabis framework, every legal purchase of cannabis flower or extract requires a valid PT 33 issued by an authorized practitioner. Here's what that actually looks like in practice.

Who can issue a PT 33 prescription?

Under current Ministry of Public Health rules, only these practitioner types may prescribe medical cannabis:

  • Medical doctors
  • Thai traditional medicine doctors
  • Applied Thai traditional medicine doctors
  • Folk healers (registered practitioners)
  • Chinese medicine practitioners
  • Pharmacists
  • Dentists

At HOLYWEED, consultations are handled by our on-site medical doctor and Thai traditional medicine practitioner.

What happens during a consultation?

Your practitioner will review your medical history, current medications, and the symptoms or condition you're hoping to address. This isn't a formality — it's a genuine clinical assessment, and not every patient will be a suitable candidate for cannabis therapy.

What does the prescription cover?

If your practitioner determines cannabis is appropriate, they will issue a PT 33 specifying:

  • The strain or product type
  • Dosage guidance
  • Duration of use — up to a maximum of 30 days

Each PT 33 is valid for a single fill and cannot be refilled. If you need more after your supply runs out, you'll need a follow-up visit and a new prescription.

Filling your prescription

Prescriptions are filled in person at a licensed dispensary — we cannot fill or ship a prescription without you or your authorized representative present. Clinics are required to keep prescription records on file for at least one year, so bring valid ID to your appointment.

A few things that are no longer allowed

It's worth being clear about what's changed. Under current regulation:

  • Cannabis cannot be sold to walk-in customers without a prescription
  • Online sales and delivery of cannabis flower are not permitted
  • Public consumption remains illegal, regardless of prescription status

These rules exist to keep the medical framework intact, and clinics that don't follow them risk losing their license.

Not medical advice. This article is educational and does not replace a consultation with a licensed practitioner. Only a qualified prescriber can determine whether medical cannabis is appropriate for you.
